Hours per Week:  Full – time

Salary: £36,000 per annum, including on-call duties, rising to £39,000 after the successful probation period.

Role Overview:

The Ground Operator is a member of the team of Flight Support Coordinators, ensuring the efficient planning and execution of flight operations and business travel principally for the Ministry of Defence Command Support Air Transport (CSAT) operation. This role provides oversight of daily ground operations, manages complex logistics, and ensures full compliance with aviation regulations and internal standards.

Acting as the primary escalation point, the Ground Operator collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and external partners while promoting accuracy, confidentiality, and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities and duties:

    • Working variable shifts based on a rota from Monday to Sunday. The role requires office-based work as well as on-call duties.
    • Feasibility and management of all trip requests.
    • Working closely with our clients, whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
    • Liaising with RAF 32 Sqn Tasking Cell, the flight operations team, third party providers, finance, crew and management to ensure all necessary operational aspects are in place, prior to the commencement of a flight, ensuring client requirements are met whilst remaining compliant with the applicable regulations, including:

    – Oversight of runway slots, handling and parking or hangarage as required.
    – Ensure crew duty is within mandatory limits.
    – Ensure initial and continuing approval of handling agents.
    – Arranging crew transport and hotels.
    – Arranging ground transport for clients.
    – Obtain passenger details required for travel.

    • Organising de-ice/anti-ice as required.
    • Circulate tripsheets and flight briefs to client.
    • Flight watch to include weather review.
    • Working with the Engineering department for scheduling of aircraft maintenance.
    • Invoice approval for both flight crew and suppliers.
    • Manage and coordinate bookings on behalf of group employees, including:

    – Business travel (flights, hotels, ground transportation).
    – Liaise with vendors and service providers to secure reservations.
    – Resolve booking changes, cancellations, and last-minute requests efficiently.
    – Maintain accurate records and documentation of all bookings.
    – Ensure compliance with company policies, budgets, and approval workflows.
    – Deliver a high level of customer service and confidentiality at all times.

    • Daily Organisation of the shift, ensuring individual duties are assigned and monitored, determine suitable breaks to coincide with operational requirements, FTL completion and On Call rostering.
    • General performance monitoring and overseeing the training of new team members.

    Skills/experience required:

    • Strong team player but also able to work independently.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail are critical.
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) with a friendly telephone manner.
    • Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to successfully multitask in a fast-paced environment, with a good awareness of surroundings.
    • Creativity and ability to think outside of the box is key.
    • High degree of competency in MS Word and Excel, along with experience of Outlook.
    • Previous aviation knowledge would be an advantage but not essential.
    • Full driving licence.
    • The right to live and work in the UK.
    • Be able to satisfy the requirements of a UK SV Security Check Clearance.
